Itinerary
Reykjavik domestic airport (Reykjavik city) for the international flight to South Greenland. Transfer to your accommodation Narsarsuaq where you stay all 3 nights.
In the afternoon guided boat trip from to the Qooroq Ice Fjord, sailing towards the glacier amongst the icebergs. As the boat nears the glacier, the boat engine is stopped, so you can enjoy the view in silence before it is time to return to Narsarsuaq.
Daytrip to Qassiarsuk: By boat there is a short sail across the fjord to Qassiarsuk (Brattahlid) where you have time to explore the surroundings, visit the Brattahlid open air museum (recunstructed farm of Erik the Red) and Thjodhild’s church.
Return to Narsarsuaq in the afternoon.
Daytrip to Igaliku: By boat to Itilleq harbour from where there is a 4-km hike to the village along the King’s Road, named after Danish kings‘s visit in 1952. Igaliku is a small historic settlement (Gardar) and one of the most beautiful villages in Greenland. The view from the top of the road is of colourful houses, green hills and milky-blue fjord and Mt Illerfissalik accross the fjord. During the Norse period Igaliku was the episcopal seat and we may still see impressive ruins from that time. Sheep farming is thriving in the village. There is a school, a church and a shop. After time to explore the village and the surroundings we return the same way to Itilleq and by boat back to Narsarsuaq.
Morning free for a short hike in the area or relax before your flight to Iceland.
