From the port, we will walk to the Carnival Museum to discover the Spanish tradition mixed with African roots in the Uruguayan carnival. We will learn about the Murgas and Candombe, and if this trip were for the date of the carnival, we will have the possibility to participate in one of the tablados (scene of the practice of candombe) or even the carnival parade. The tour continues to the Pre-Columbian Art Museum and then to the Constitution Square, where we will visit the Cathedral, the Cabildo and then up to the Torres Garcia Art Museum, one of the oldest art schools in Uruguay. We will make a stop at the Puro Verso Library (one of the oldest buildings in the area) for a quick coffee or a cool drink and then continue along the pedestrian street to the Solis Theatre. After visiting the theater, we will have a drink at Fun Fun, a traditional tangueria where the renowned tango singer Carlos Gardel used to sing when he was in town. The tour ends at the Independence Square, where the old arch of the old city is located, right in front of the statue of our national hero, Jose Gervasio Artigas, where his remains are protected, and the Salvo Palace is erected.

We will start the tour in the morning for a brief panoramic tour of the city of Montevideo’s neighborhoods and its most important attractions. We will continue to a typical winery, 40 minutes north of Montevideo, for a visit with a wine tasting and a delicious lunch.
In the afternoon, we will enjoy a tour around “Montevideo moderno” visiting the different neighbourhoods that were developed after the demolition of the walls of the Ciudad Vieja in September 1829. We will visit downtown Montevideo, including a stop at the studio of Lobo Núñez, a Candombe drummer. He was recognized in the music world for making drums for celebrities like Mick Jagger.
Then, we will continue along the main avenue “18 de Julio” which is named after Independence Day. This avenue crosses the center of the Plaza de la Independencia to the Obelisk. After a visit to the Transportation Monument, we will visit the Centennial Stadium (entrance fee not included), located within the “Parque Batlle” neighborhood, which is named after Luis Batlle y Ordoñez, one of the first presidents of Uruguay. We will continue through the distinctive neighborhood of “Punta Carretas” and go down to the coast of the Rio de la Plata. We will border the beautiful coastal boulevard built between 1900 and 1910. We will arrive at “Pocitos” (small holes), which owes its name to the slave washers who used to go to this area of the beach and dig holes to get water and wash their clothes. Then we will visit the Virgilio Square from where you can appreciate a panoramic view of the city before continuing to the “Carrasco” residential area, an old summer area of the first inhabitants.
