We begin to walk along the left of Urubamba River that flows towards the northeast of the Sacred Valley, among eucalyptus forests, beautiful natural landscapes and impressive archaeological remains that only those who decided to make this route have the privilege of enjoying.
The first remains, with which we will have contact almost immediately, are the archaeological groups of
Q’ente, Pulpituyoc, Kusichaca and Patallacta, etc.
Overnight in Wayllabamba
We will get up very early to contemplate the beauty of the mountains and breathe the pure air that nature gives us. Meanwhile, we will be taking an energetic breakfast that will help us overcome the great challenge that this day poses us, to overcome the 4,250 m.a.s.l from the summit of Warmiwanusqa, the highest pass of the route. From this place we will have a spectacular view, appreciating on one side Wayllabamba and on the other Runkurakay, which is where the trek will continue on the third day. Immediately after the pass we will descend to the valley of Pacaymayu, located at 3600 m.a.s.l., where we will make the second camp.
Overnight in Pacaymayu
This day could be classified as the most interesting of the walk, due to the number of archaeological sites that we will visit. After breakfast, and having raised the camp, we will begin the ascent to the second step: El Abra de Runkurakay (3970 m.a.s.l). As the half day approaches, we will be arriving and visit the archaeological complex of the same name, located at 3800 m.a.s.l., where we can see a small and oval structure, which is believed to have fulfilled the function of watchtower. After passing the pass, we will descend to Yanacocha (black lagoon), where the landscape begins to change and we begin to enter a humid forest, typical of the “Jungle of jungles”, reaching Sayacmarca (3624 m.a.s.l), a beautiful archaeological complex built in a semicircular shape, with different levels, narrow streets, liturgical fountains, patios and irrigation canals. After visiting this site, we will continue our journey until we reach the third step: El Abra de Phuyupatamarca (3700 m.a.s.l), where we will find one of the most complete and best-preserved archaeological complexes on the route, at the highest point of the mountain.
The descent continues until we reach Wiñay Wayna, where we will make the third camp, located just 5 minutes from the archaeological complex of the same name. Wiñay Wayna was considered by the Incas as the city of eternal youth.
Overnight in Wiñay Wayna
This is the last section of the Inca Trail, and we will get up very early to have breakfast and start the ascent to the Inti Punku or Sun ́s gate. The excursion will take us about an hour to reach the edge of the cliffs of the mountain, from where we will have a privileged view of the sunrise over the imposing Sacred City of Machu Picchu. After living this indescribable experience, we will descend towards the archaeological center, after passing through the point of control, where we can keep our belongings to begin the guided tour of Machu Picchu, a World Heritage Site and one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. The tour lasts approximately two hours and then we will have free time to walk around the citadel or climb the mountain of Huayna Picchu. At the agreed time, we will descend to the town of Aguas Calientes where each one can choose the place of his preference to have lunch. (Lunch on this day is for each one).
Return to the city of Cusco, where our staff will be waiting to receive you and transfer you to your hotel.
