It is worth mentioning that the beauty of Machu Picchu is exalted by the extraordinary scenery where it is located. A National Reserve has been formed around the citadel, which covers an area of 32,500 hectares, and includes a constellation of archaeological monuments, which we believe were built as part of the Machu Picchu complex and not in isolation. Most of the trains that can be found in the Cemetery date from the beginning of the 20th century and were imported from Great Britain. Continuing our tour, just outside the Salar de Uyuni, is the picturesque village of Colchani, where the salt is processed. This small town of just over 600 inhabitants is home to the largest salt processing cooperative in Bolivia. In this village there is a large market for salt handicrafts and textile art made from llama and alpaca wool. We will learn about the process used to extract the salt and Los Ojos del Salar are exits for the underground rivers that flow underneath this salt flat with a particular acid concentration, considered medicinal water by the locals. Finally, we will visit La Isla Incahuasi which is located about 190 km inside the salt flat leaving the town of Colchani, an ideal place for 360-degree panoramic views at a certain altitude above the salt flat.
